Building Inspections Proposed Fee Scheduled
Updates for FY 22-23
This proposed update addresses several issues with the current fee schedule including:
•Better aligning fees with comparison cities
•Adding several fees recommended by the Matrix Survey
•Substantially eliminating the calculation of fees based on number of inspections resulting
•Better prepared for Energov implementation
•Less ambiguity as staff will not need to count the number of required inspections
•Removes plans examiners from fee calculation
•Fees updated in 2019
4
Building Inspections-what’s staying the same
•Commercial and Multifamily Permit Fees -these permit fees are
currently calculated based on valuation as determined by the ICC
Building Valuation Tables. These tables are adjusted semiannually to
account for changes in construction costs
•Residential New Construction Permits -survey results indicated our
current fees are in-line with comparison cities
•Pool Permits -survey results indicated our current permit fee is in-line
with comparison cities

For example, one city may charge a flat fee whereas another may charge hourly for a specific item. Other common differences include charging by fixture count, valuation, number of inspections, and various permutations of a flat fee + a fee per square foot. Where assumptions were made to provide a comparison, attempts were made to use a commonly permitted item and are noted in the graph. Missing data may also denote the city does not charge for the specific item or the data was not accessible online.

Notes: Some data is missing or has been estimated where comparison cities used a different method of calculation. For example, one city may charge
a flat fee whereas another may charge hourly for a specific item. Other common differences include charging by fixture count, valuation, number of
inspections, and various permutations of a flat fee + a fee per square foot. Where assumptions were made to provide a comparison, attempts were
made to use a commonly permitted item and are noted in the graph. Missing data may also denote the city does not charge for the specific item or the
data was not accessible online.
Fees are based on a 20,000 sq. ft., building, $10,000 valuation for comparison cities when valuation is used.
