Consider and act upon an ordinance amending Article
3.14, “Signs,” of Chapter 3, “Building Regulations,” of
the Code of Ordinances by replacing said article with a
new Article 3.14, “Signs,” and extending the Town’s
Sign Ordinance and Regulations to the Town’s
Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. (MD17-0009) (JW)
•The 2015 Supreme Court case significantly
changed how cities and towns can regulate
signs,particularly the content of a sign.
•We cannot permit certain off-premise signs
based on the content of the message such as
“Garage Sale”or the weekend builder
directional signs but at the same time,not allow
undesirable signs,“Shop and Dine in Frisco,
Not Prosper.”This also applies to digital
message boards.
•In response to commercial development and
variances –address size/height of wall signs.
