Resolution in Support of
the Collin County Commission
on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution
and Endorsing Construction of a Constitutional Plaza
WHEREAS, we , the members of the PROSPER City Council , as citizens
of the United States of America and as representatives of our consti-
tuents , uphold the ordainment and establishment of the Constitution
as a means of securing the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our
posterity; and
WHEREAS, we believe it is important that all citizens fully under-
stand the provisions , principles and meaning of the Constitution so
they can support, preserve and defend it against encroachment; and
WHEREAS, the Collin County Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S.
Constitution was created in 1987 to support and participate in a
five-year nationwide commemorative effort to stimulate citizen aware-
ness and interest in the history of the Constitution by sponsoring
informative, entertaining and educational activities for all Collin
County citizens; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas and the U.S. Bicentennial Commission have
designated Collin County as an official bicentennial community; and
WHEREAS, the Collin County Bicentennial Commission has developed
plans to construct a Constitutional Plaza to provide a public area
for our citizens to learn about and reflect upon the rights, privi-
leges and responsibilities of American citizenship; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of PROSPER do enjoy the blessings
of liberty, the guarantees of the sill of Rights , equal protection of
the law under the Constitution, and the freedoms derived from it;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the the City Council of PROSPER
Texas , hereby declares its support of the Collin County Commission on
the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution; endorses efforts to
construct a Constitutional Plaza; and encourages the citizens of the
City of PROSF1`R to actively participate in this historically and edu-
cationally significant endeavor.
