06.07.2002 Parks & Rec MinutesP and Recreation Committee Workshop Church Street P=per First Baptist Church Thursday, June 7, 2002, 7p.m, Those Present: Darin Riggs, Karen Williams, Randy Turner, Steve Witt, and Julie Larios. Call to order. Chairman Darin Riggs called the workshop to order at 7:07 p.m. Darin Riggs reviewed minutes of last meeting. Minutes approved by Randy and Darin Review of finances by Randy Turner. Currently there is still $39,644.31 in funds available to Parks and Rec. in this year's budget (which ends September 301h). Budget approved by Karen and Darin. Subject of future meeting: land allocation vs. cash. Where did the money that was collected from previous developments go? When did Prosper start to collect parks money? Meeting opened to public comment Lisa Frye the Prosper Sports Association's soccer commissioner has been able to obtain fill dirt for future soccer fields but needs approval of when and where to dump the dirt Bob Jameson was appointed her contact Next week's meeting with the Prosper ISD will help gain approval for the use of the elementary school fields as soccer fields (after the school's expansion construction Is completed). Tim Wolfe, the PSA's boy's baseball commissioner requested that JWI needs to inspect the sprinkler system at Main Street Park as soon as possible for repairs. He also was concerned about security at the park after a theft occurred at the concession stand resulting in $200. Lost in soda and candy items. The doors of the concession stand need to be reinforced, as well as the windows and location of control boxes for lights and sprinklers. Police department will be contacted for an assessment. Two major upcoming tournaments, age 7-8 end of season will be held June 10-14th, and the All -Star tournament from July 5ih -101h. The lack of available parking was discussed and possible new sites were suggested. Discussion of Collin County Open Spaces Grant - Deadline for application is July 5th, 2001. Copies of Celina's spring application were discussed. Discussed need of map for Hayes and Main Street Parks. Improvements of Hayes - playground, picnic tables, parking, landscaping. (Maybe unnecessary for grant application.) Improvements to Main Street Park could include: a playground, park benches, walking path, additional landscaping, improved sprinkler system, additional parking. Possibility of Winnatkes building (old bank downtown) to be used as a Rec. Center. Possibility of available land owned by the PI SD and shared facilities - to be discussed at workshop next week.
