The Responsibility of Citizenship
Citizenship is more than where you live.
It is how you show up. Freedom requires participation!
1. Rights & Responsibility
• What rights do you value most?
• What responsibilities protect those rights?
• Can a community thrive if everyone demands rights but avoids responsibility?
2. Engagement & Influence
• Is social media civic engagement?
• What’s the difference between criticism and contribution?
• What does respectful disagreement look like?
• If you show up to criticize, should you also show up to serve?
3. Information & Accountability
• How do you determine whether information is credible?
• Do you have a responsibility to verify before sharing?
• Does anonymity reduce accountability?
4. Character & Stewardship
• Is citizenship more about policy or about character?
• What happens to a community when trust erodes?
• What kind of citizen do you want to be remembered as?
Closing Reflection and Homework for next week – answer:
“Citizenship isn’t about power. It’s about stewardship — leaving your community stronger than
you found it.”
What can you do specifically to contribute to leaving your community stronger?
