First Street, Prosper, Texas Wednesday, October 23, 2024 Staff Members Present: Todd Rice, Communications Director Myrisa Petty, Community Engagement Coordinator 2. Hot Topics with Mayor David Bristol (DB) Mayor Bristol gave an overview of early voting and asked the Council who the voting is for outside of the National Presidential election. He mentions that this election includes senators, congress, Texas Supreme Court and other items that impact on a local level. Mayor Bristol suggests being educated voters and not just voting by party. He mentions the difference in statistics for voting when it comes to national versus local elections and the importance of voting in local elections. Mayor Bristol also gave brief run downs of upcoming town events including: Arbor Day, the Veterans Honor Run and the Prosper Christmas Festival. Mayor Bristol then asked the Council what topics they had for him and what they would like more information on. Mr. He asks about information for voters and how information can be disseminated. With the Council agreeing that social media is their main source of information, Mayor Bristol Page 1 of 3 advises to be careful what to believe when it comes to social media and suggests still doing individual research and attending events by candidates. Mr. Rice informed the Council about the MyProsper app and the Resident Update e-newsletter to stay informed with happenings in the town outside of just social media. Mayor Bristol did also take the time to have members of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council introduce themselves and share what their collegiate plans and professional plans are after high school. 3. MYAC Hot Topics (MP) Mayor's Youth Advisory Council Member Sai Aaradhya Vanaparthy presented a hot topic of his to the Council that included the creation of a Youth North Central Texas Council of Governments to benefit the youth of prosper and expand impact to a regional level. The initiative calls for 16 candidates from 16 counties that the North Central Texas Council of Governments serves and have the representatives work together to discuss topics such as transportation, sustainability and economic development. The Council liked the idea of the initiative and asked some questions for logistics. Mr. Vanaparthy let the Council know that this initiative is still in the beginning stages and welcomes any suggestion in the future as it develops. 4. Election for Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary (MP) Mrs. Petty talked about how electing the officers in the January meeting was run and asked the Council if they would like to do it the same way. Ms. Petty also walked the Council through what each position was and the responsibility attached. The Council opted to do it very similarly with members pitching themselves to the Council for the desired position and the Council voting. After the pitches were heard by the Council, they elected: William He as Chairperson with 10 in favor, Joshua Hart as Vice Chairperson with 8 in favor, Alana Jackson as Secretary with 9 in favor and Kenna Thornton as the newly created position of Event/Meeting Photographer with all in favor. 5. Discuss MYAC Goals and Objectives from the Spring (MP) The Council has opted to push this agenda item to the November Meeting. 6. Discussion of "MYAC Minute" Social Media (TR) Mr. Rice led a discussion on the creation of a "MYAC Minute" similar to the already existing "Mayor's Minute." Mayor David Bristol talked about how he comes up with the content for his videos. He mentions deciding what he would like to communicate the most and that he always strives to communicate the information in a positive way. Mr. Hart suggested a different speaker and different locations for the MYAC Minute to keep the content interesting and new. Mr. He suggests a dedicated MYAC Instagram for the Council to run. The Council agreed that their course of action to gain a following is to share to their personal social medias and work with school media organizations. Mr. Rice mentioned that it would be good to share to the town pages as well. The council decided that they will think of names and ideas for the page as well as a name for the "MYAC Minute." Mr. Atwater suggested that the first video be introductions of the new MYAC Officers. 7. Town Hall Tour (TR) The Council was given a tour of Prosper Town Hall by Communications Director, Todd Rice. 8. Consider and act upon the minutes of the September 26, 2024 Mayor's Youth Page 2 of 3 Advisory Council (MYAC) Meeting (MP) Om Gaddad made a motion and Council Member Ryan Church seconded the motion to approve the September 26, 2024 MYAC minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. 9. Requests for Future Agenda Items (MP) 1. Goals & Objectives exercise from the Spring 2024 class. 2. The creation of a Mission Statement to represent the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council. 3. The creation of a Council run social media profile and discuss how it would work and the content to be posted. 10.
