06.13.24 Park Board PacketPARKS & RECREATION BOARD MEETING June 13, 2024 Call to Order / Roll Call Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the May 9, 2024 Parks & Recreation Board meeting. Consider and act upon approval of the planned changes and additions to Celebrate Prosper. Goals for Celebrate Prosper •Continue to evolve •Become Prosper’s flagship event •Be Prosper-centric •Increase sponsorship •Appeal to a larger audience •Be a place where everyone matters Proposed Changes Upgrade Entertainment / Music •Book known / up and coming acts (in process) •Battle of the Bands for local acts •Include ‘for-profit’ vendors & exhibitors Do away with free barbecue / hot dogs / hamburgers •Offer complimentary snow cones / ice cream for Council / Resident interaction •Offer Food Trucks – more food varieties Collaboration with Visual Arts Prosper •Local Artist Show Proposed Changes New Resident Mixer Hybrid •Would become the opportunity to welcome new residents to Prosper •Elevated experience (food truck coupons, Town swag, etc) •Town department representatives in attendance Collaboration with Chamber of Commerce •BBQ Competition / meal experience fund raiser •Showcase new businesses Multicultural Component •Art / Entertainment / Food Keep and Enhance •Opportunities for Families with Children with Special Needs •Local Non-Profit Exhibits •Music / Entertainment •Increased community interaction through additional volunteer opportunities Bang for the Buck! •Over the past 12 months, the Town spent approximately $100 per New Resident Mixer attendee. •These funds can be used to upgrade components of Celebrate Prosper and give new and old residents an improved Town of Prosper experience. Consider and act upon approval of the planned additions of baseball facilities by PBSA to Frontier Park. Baseball Facilities Addition to Frontier Park •Practice Infield and Batting Cages •Fully funded through PBSA •Through ILA: •Facilities would be Town of Prosper property •Town of Prosper would be responsible for maintenance •Installation during this summer Comments from the Public. Recreation •2024 Summer Camps have begun! •20 programs and 46 classes being offered •Over 800 registered participants for all Summer programs •Camps run through August 9 Recreation •Adaptive Programming •Game On! •PISD partnership •Wednesday evenings •Volunteer opportunities Park Planning: Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan Project Update •Advisory Committee meeting was held yesterday, June 12 @ 6:00pm. Next steps: •Complete Benchmarking Study •Complete Recreation Program Analysis •Develop Priority Rankings based on the Survey results Park Development: Lakewood Park Development •Fencing installation around the sports courts is underway. •Trail work continues as weather allows. •Irrigation system trenching is underway. •Project completion is anticipated before the end of 2024. View Southwest Park Development: Raymond Community Park •GMP No. 2 package has been fully executed. •Grading of fields continues. •Storm drainpipe and water line installation still underway. •Excavation for the detention ponds will begin soon, as conditions dry. View South •Pecan Grove Park – A powerful storm felled trees and scattered debris all around the park. •Hays Park - Parks Operations visited Hays Park to clean up the trees and debris left by the storm, turning the trees into wood chips. •Town Hall – Newly spread mulch throughout Town Hall flower beds. ❖Upgrades were completed at Town Hall, with new plants added throughout the flower beds and planters.
