Welcome Kari Castro. MINUTES Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Prosper Town Hall, Council Chambers 250 W. First Street, Prosper, Texas Thursday, November 9, 2023 6:00 PM 3. Consider and act upon the minutes of the August 10, 2023 and September 14, 2023 Parks & Recreation Board meetings. Motion to approve by Benson. Seconded by Shamsy. Motion approved 6-0. 4. Comments from the public. There were no comments from the public. 5. Presentation — Erica Farenthold, Boyer Park Sensory Garden. 6. Receive staff updates: Recreation, Park Development, Parks Operations, and Director. Recreation: Celebrate Proper was a big success. There were an estimated 2,500 event attendees. Prosper Wonder Squad and families of children with Special Needs were welcomed prior to the event. There were live bands, a Kid Zone, face painting, a balloon artist, a photo booth, and an open play area. Many nonprofit organizations were on site as Exhibitors while all Community Partners were set up under the pavilion. Page 1 of 3 Thank you to our event sponsors: CoServ, Cook Children's Health Network, Kroger on Preston Road, Charred 380 Grills and Outdoor, Gateway Church, Prosper United Methodist Church, and Prosper Ladies Association. Veteran's Day 5k and Fun Run is scheduled to take place this upcoming Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Frontier Park. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., starting with a program to honor the Veteran's and followed by the start of both races. Registration is open for this event and volunteer opportunities are available. The Active Adults (55+) hosted a day trip, 'Wonders of Waco', on October 16, 2023. Seventeen members attended as well as two staff members. The trip included a Homestead Heritage Farm tour with lunch on site, a stop at Magnolia Market / Shops at the Silos, and a tour of the Dr. Pepper museum. Park Development: Pecan Grove Park — The contractor has fully completed all punch list items. Staff are working to gather all needed documents and close out the project. Lakewood Park Development — Ratliff has been issued a Notice to Proceed and construction has officially begun. The construction management team is working on a strategy for the bore under Coit Road for access to the water main Grading work is scheduled to begin this week. Construction is scheduled to last 14-15 months. Raymond Community Park — Construction documents are complete. The project has been separated into two bid packages. The first package is out to bid currently with bids due November 16, 2023. The second package will go out to bid in January. Parks Operations: Winter annuals were planted in all pots near Main Street and Broadway Street corners. New seasonal plants were also implemented at the Town Hall. Bicycle racks have been installed at the Park at Star Trace. Damaged slides and picnic tables at Frontier Park have been restored. Staff prepped medians at Gates 2 for the new design which included new plants, rocks, mulch, and irrigation. The first weekend in November in Texas is Arbor Day, and each year the town hosts all who wish to attend and take part in the planting of two trees. The Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts were very helpful, and we would like to take a moment to appreciate their hard work and dedication. Thank you to Wyatt Rose, Alex Stephenson, and all other troops for supporting our community. Director: On October 11, 2023 the National Recreation and Parks Association awarded the Town of Prosper Parks & Recreation department with an accreditation, which demonstrates that we meet the national standards of best practice. A ceremony was held to recognize the department's hard work and dedication. In the coming days, many opportunities to volunteer will be available. The Christmas Festival is on December 2, 2023 and volunteer shifts are available from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Light the Night begins on December 13, 2023 and judging will begin at 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Barbara Cottone at (972) 569-1052 or bcottone cDProspertx.gov.
